Description
Harpies are the primary caretakers and jailors of Mevvet, having been made alongside the plane to serve as its guardians. They have faithfully served as such since the plane’s creation, although whom they served has since changed. Harpies originally served the original protector of Mevvet, the deceased sphinx god Nepuntaku, but, upon urgings by the Forgotten Lord, they, being led by their leader, the harpy Nikothoe, betrayed Nepuntaku, and dropped him into the Soul Well. After they committed this treasonous action, they have since pledged allegiance to Mevvet’s new master, the Forgotten Lord. Regardless of their bloody history, the harpies diligently carry out their duty, the creatures never even needing to sleep or eat, or even blink, so steadfast are they in their watch. Harpies stand at 5 feet tall, and are, in essence, birds with the head of an ugly maiden. They have two black wings, which, when extended, have a wingspan of six feet. In addition, harpies have long, hooked claws on their birdlike feet, which possess an effectiveness against ghosts and the undead akin to that of platinum, and regular steel to those not yet deceased. They often use these claws to pick up spirits, and ferry them from the Courtyard to the Well of Souls, where they will be recycled. Harpies also possess incredible eyesight, being able to make out and identify figures from miles away, making most escape attempts in Mevvet highly unsuccessful.

Harpies are sentient yet vain creatures, who, despite their hideous looks, believe themselves to be the most beautiful things in the entirety of creation. This vainness, however, does not distract them from their duties, which they hold to be beyond sacred, and further proof of their greatness. The creation of new harpies is fundamentally tied to the soul well, a small portion of the vast amount of the energy it recycles being used to propagate the further existence of their race. Harpies also hate Covundarth and his ilk(undead), believing them to be disturbing the natural balance of the universe by denying Mevvet their souls. Rarely, flocks of harpies, often led by Greater Harpies, will travel to Gaia to hunt down and destroy necromancers and all others who violate the dead and thus barr their souls from entering Mevvet. These necromancers, if captured, are ferried directly to Mevvet (despite their achievements in their past life), where they join the ranks of the Forgotten.

Mainly Mevvet, but they can appear in any dimension.

Behavior
They circle high in the air in Mevvet, constantly on the lookout for escape attempts. Harpies sometimes travel into other realms to hunt down those very rare few who do manage to escape the plane, avoid going there, or steal its secrets without the blessing of the Forgotten Lord. They also carry Forgotten who have had all of their memories drained from them to the Soul Well, into which they drop them. In combat, they often use this same tactic, picking up their helpless victims by the shoulder with their claws before letting them plummet to their deaths once they gain sufficient altitude.
